5 selected developments · chronology through 2026-11-04

Five selected developments from the IMD’s storm classification through the 4 November post-landfall update. Casualty and damage reporting was still developing; this is not a final loss assessment.

  1. · Official meteorological record

A depression strengthens into Cyclone Murasu

IMD bulletins record the system’s development and naming as Cyclone Murasu over the Bay of Bengal. Classification and forecast strength are time-stamped by each bulletin.

This is an official forecast record, not an observation of impact on land.

  2. · Official forecast and warning

IMD escalates warnings as Murasu approaches the coast

IMD classified Murasu as a severe cyclonic storm and issued coastal warnings ahead of landfall. Forecast wind and surge figures describe risk, not measured damage.

Forecasts and alerts are time-sensitive. They do not establish eventual casualties or damage.

  3. · Attributed report

    Murasu makes landfall near Ongole

AP reported landfall near Ongole in Prakasam district with IMD-reported sustained winds of 100–110 kph. The report noted evacuations and heavy rain; a final damage assessment was not yet available.

The landfall date is 3 November. AP’s article was published the same day; its wind figure is attributed to IMD.

  4. · Official meteorological update

IMD downgrades Murasu as it moves inland

IMD’s later bulletin downgraded Murasu from a severe cyclonic storm to a cyclonic storm over coastal Andhra Pradesh. The forecast status changed as the system weakened.

The event is the official downgrade; the linked Indian Express report was published the following day and also carries casualty reporting.

  5. · Official update and attributed reporting

Post-landfall bulletin and first fatality reports emerge

The IMD archive records a weakening remnant; Indian Express reported two deaths and heavy rain. The death count is attributed to the report and remains subject to later state assessments.

The IMD source supports storm status; the two deaths are from news reporting and should not be represented as a final state-wide toll.
